VATICAN, Oct. 2, 00 (CWNews.com) - Pope John Paul II issued an urgent plea for peace on the Holy Land on October 2, as he met with pilgrims in St. Peter's Square.
«For several days, the holy city of Jerusalem has been the scene of violent confrontations, that have left a number of people dead or wounded, including several who were only children,» the Pope observed. He said that he is close in prayer to the families of those who died.
«I address my grieved appeal to all responsible parties: to put down their arms, to avoid provocations, and to resume the process of dialogue,» the Pope continued.
«The Holy Land should be the land of peace and brotherhood,» the Pontiff concluded. «That is God's will!»
