CAIRO, Oct 3, 01 (FIDES/CWNews.com) - Christian leaders in Egypt have united to sponsor a three-day period of fasting and prayer for world peace. The prayer vigil is devoted to the intention that American responses to the terrorist attack of September 11 will not promote further acts of violence.

Egyptian Copts, Catholics, and Protestants quickly accepted a proposal made by Marie Assaad, a long-time leader of the World Council of Churches, in organizing the event. Pope Shenouda II, the Coptic leader of Alexander, took a key part in promoting participation.
