Custody: history will judge those who are blocking the negotiations

Rome (Fides) - The Israeli-Palestinian commission to solve the situation at the Nativity Church in Bethlehem has once again cancelled its meeting. Yesterday evening the talks had already been blocked once. The commission was due to meet this morning in Bethlehem but the meeting did not take place. A Jerusalem news agency says that Palestinian president Yasser Arafat is responsible for preventing negotiations.

In this regard Fides asked the opinion of spokesman for the Holy Land Custody Father David Jaeger. "At this moment I cannot publicly identify those who are responsible for yet another postponement of the negotiations. I can say however that the exact facts are known to us. Before Christianity and the history of the civil society, those responsible for the useless prolonging of this torment will be severely judged. Those who show themselves ready for compromise and withdrawal of useless demands, will merit appreciation also from the future generations".
