AACHEN, Germany, SEPT. 9, 2003 (Zenit.org).- Rabbi David Rosen of the American Jewish Committee suggested that a conference be held among the three religions of Abraham to solve the question of Jerusalem.
At the international meeting on peace, the rabbi stressed that it is not possible to disregard the religious element of the conflict in the Holy Land.
Either «religion is part of the solution or it will be part of the problem,» he told a conference on «Israel and Palestine: Dialogue on the Future.»
«This is the moment to give more profound attention to Jerusalem,» Rabbi Rosen added. «We have need of an official international organization to seek an agreement among the three religions of Abraham.»
«I would like to propose that the Sant'Egidio Community be in charge of the organization of an agreement among the Christian, Muslim and Jewish leaders to recognize the status of Jerusalem,» he concluded.
Sant'Egidio, a Catholic lay association, helped to organize the peace meeting in this German city.
