As a result of the shocking attack on the Italian forces in Nassiriya that resulted 16 dead soldiers and over 30 Iraqi civilians, as well as over a hundred civilian injuries, Caritas Iraq's office in Nassiriya was badly damaged with 12 employees carried to the hospital with glass injuries.
Seven of the injured employees were released last night from the hospital and five remained under attention in the emergency ward.
The Nassiriya hospital is ill equipped and has a shortage of medicines, and could not cop with the emergency situation as a result of this Blast.
Caritas Iraq reacted immediately by sending Dr. Nabil Farjo (of the medical team) and Mr. Habeeb Toma (Well Baby Program manager) with a truckload of emergency medicines and medical supplies such as:
- Burn Cream
- ATS injections
- Tranquilizers
- Painkillers
- Portable Oxygen Kits
- First aid kits
- Glucometer with accessories
- Medical Disposables
- Disinfectants and sterilizing reagents
- Others, as deemed needed
Mr. Jamal Hanna Project Coordinator for ICAP (CRS and Caritas Iraq's joined Community Development Projects in Basra and Nassiriya, left Basra this morning to assess the damages on the ground.
The well Baby program center of Iraqi Red Crescent Society branch in Nassiriya was heavily damaged and the director Dr. Hassan was seriously injured and is still in the hospital.
Let us all pray for the souls of the dead Italian soldiers and to those Iraqi civilians killed or injured as a result of the blast.
