LVIV, Jun 27, 01 (CWNews.com) - Tens of thousands of Ukrainians gathered at the Lviv airport on Wednesday evening to bid farewell to Pope John Paul II as he ended his visit to their country.
Before boarding the airplane for a three-hour flight back to Rome, the Pope told the crowd that his visit had left him with "unforgettable memories." He offered his thanks to the Catholics who had played host to his visit, as well as to the "venerable pastors of the Orthodox Church" in Ukraine.
