WARSAW, Poland, SEPT. 19, 2002 (Zenit.org).- Prime Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz deplored the recent expulsion from Russia of a Polish bishop and two Polish Catholic priests.

«We profoundly deplore this event, especially because the Russian authorities have not explained the reasons for their decisions,» the Polish Prime Minister said in statements reported by Agence France-Presse.

Cimoszewicz said that his government transmitted his country's «critical reaction» to the Russian ambassador in Warsaw, and asked Moscow to explain the expulsions.

In a statement Sept. 10, Vatican spokesman Joaquín Navarro-Valls protested over the expulsion of Father Jaroslaw Wisniewski.
