Thousands of families will gather in the Spanish capital on June 18 to express their disapproval of government plans they say would harm marriage, childhood and the family.
"The Family Does Matter. For the Right to a Mother and a Father. For Freedom" is the theme of the meeting, an initiative of the Spanish Family Forum, which represents more than 4 million families.
The protest is especially opposed to the reform of the civil code being promoted by the Socialist Labor Party to establish homosexual "marriage" with the right to adopt children.
The convocation of the meeting has the approval of imam Seg Munir of the Great Mosque of Madrid. The Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain, and other religious confessions, are also supporting the meeting.
Several Catholic dioceses, including Madrid, have given their support to the protest.
Hundreds of buses are being provided for trips to the capital, and no fewer than five planes will fly families from the Balearic and Canary islands to Madrid.
In addition, more than 150 associations and entities have given their support to the meeting.
